Cobra 200 GTL DX Help
Just got a new 200 GTL DX. Somethings don't make sense to me. First the button that switches the meter between s/rf and swr. When I press this button the frequency counter changes to say CAL or Sur. Once the display is in this mode and I press the dim/swr cal button it cycles between these 2 modes. If I press and hold the dim/swr cal button and try to cal ibrate the swr's I can't tell if it is working because I can't get the meter to read the swr's. The radio has been opened up to included 26-29 mhz could this mod have caused my problems?? Thanks for any help.

No, the mod does not cause the problem you are experiencing.
1.) You need to key the TX in AM/FM mode, or CW (Carrier Modes).
2.) Turn the calibrate knob clockwise until it reaches the cal mark on the upper right of the meter with the radio in TX mode.
3.) Then depress the button and switch from CAL to SWR (Sur) mode and read the SWR meter.
This is the SWR reading.

I have this same problem, when checking the swr's I set it to cal and at times it will not let me adjust it to the cal setting. I can turn the knob full clockwise and it will only go as far as 3 on the meter. then I switch to sur and key up it may swing to 1 at the highest freq on 10 meter I get a 3.
I've tried the swrs on different bands and it works sometimes and sometimes it don't, but most of the time on 11 meter it won't do jack.
aside from that, when dead keying my needle does not move at all like on the older cobras. the only time the needle moves is when I talk. the louder I talk the higher the needle goes on the meter is this normal for these radios?
example if I say "hellohello hello testing" the needle will swing to about 3-4 if I say "audio" it will swing up to 9. in hi power it will red line. and on band C it will sqeal even if I turn the mic gain to 0. (I have a very faint talkback in this radio)
Any thoughts on this other than these radios are serious junk?
