Cobra 25 LTD Classic problem.

Post by Bigmic91 »

I have a 25 that works sometimes and sometimes it doesnt. When it works it sounds good and gets out good but when it doesnt work the mic wont even key up and nothing with the squelch turned all the way down. Any ideas. If i can get it fixed i would love to do some mods to it if any one has suggestions as to what works best. Thanks.

I too would say check try a different mic, it could also be the mic socket pins opening / closing up.

Cobra 25 LTD Classic problem.

Post by Rick »

If its not a Mic fault, then check for cold solder joints around the following components, R24, R26, R89, R90, R97, TR16, and TR17.

Also check the CB/PA switch, they can burn-up on this radio.

All of the 25LTD I have work on, I have found cold solder joints, it seams to be a problem with this radio.

Thanks for the help guys i will check that out. I think it maybe a cold solder joint. It will work for a while and then I can turn it off and back on and it doesnt work. Also there is some glue or grease of some type that ran out the back of the radio. I dont know if that would have an effect on it or not.

Ok I had it working for about a week and put a swing kit in it and now it is doing the same thing again. I was checking the areas that Rick said and found one cold solder joint and got that fixed but I got it to work today and just left it on for like twenty minutes and went back and checked it every so often and it worked until about the twenty minute mark. I dont know where to go now so any help would be appreciated.

Take out the swing kit and put the radio back to stock.
Then check radio and if the fault has gone away it must be the swing kit.

sorry I didnt explain good enough, I got the radio to work and left it alone and used it for 3 or 4 days it worked perfect no problems at all. I then installed the swing kit and it worked perfect dead key of about a half a watt and pegged the meter( I dont have a watt meter yet) when I talked. the people i talk to said it sounded great. It worked that way for another 3 or 4 days and then it was doing the same thing it was doing before.

It probably is not the swing kit which causing the fault but stock radios is easier to find the fault.

Check all the soldering joints as it sounds that what the problem is.
