Hi, I want to modify an SSB c.b. set for 6Mtrs.
There seems to be a p[roblem in doing this (I need continuous tuning) The phase locked loop only allows 10kc/s steps.
Can anyone help? I am, thinking of doing away with the p.l.loop and using xtals where necessary and a VFO.
Any assistance greatfully received. Thanks Al
Mod c.b. set for 6Meters
Cymro,
Welcome to the forum.
It would help if you told us what radio it is.
Moving a radio that far from what it was original designed to work on is asking a hell of a lot for a CB.
If the radio has a clarifier or a kC shift then you would be able to adjust the frequency between the 10KC's of each channel, so that's not a major problem. The PLL istself may be a problem, depending on what PLL is in the radio.
Dave.

How far is it.
Twice it's length from halfway.

Hi Dave, i was talking in general, no specific c/b in mind. I wantb to do away with the 'phase lock loop' tp eneable a vfo to be used. thanks. alzodiac wrote:Cymro,

You have plunged head first into the deep end of extreem radio modification. I know of very few people who have pulled off the feat of modifying a CB to 6 metres, but yes it can and has been done.
A friend of mine was the first person I know of who did it with a Super Panther. He only did it because a few people said it was impossible.
I do not know the method he used as I met him after the event. I do know the current owner of the radio.
I have done it with an old superlion Mk2 that was given to me DOA.
After getting the radio working again I modified the VCO to 14MHz and the output was put through a trippler and the RF stages each modified for 52MHz. I added an FM board since that section of the band is FM.
It worked but it would have been better done with a PLL more suited to non CB use like a PLL02A so that the channels would actually appear where you wanted them.

Yes I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.

Usually a transverter is used in such a case.
Such as the Ten-Tec kit
These units use 20 meters (14 Mhz), 2 meters (144 Mhz) & 10 meters (28 Mhz) as the input frequencies. But, not all of them transvert to 6 meters. Some are 2 meter transverters.

I hope this helps.
