Just recently bought an alan 48 multi excel & was told it could be modified & fully banded. I have looked around the usual haunts & found minimal info. If anyone has any advice it would be most appreciated. Any mods or banding info.

Fully "banding" the unit requires some simple soldering knowledge. You only need to actually install a 4 position DIP switch and solder in a 4 wire ribbon cable to the PLL, the DIP switches have 2 positions which then gives you many channeling options with the PLL, the end result is about 400 channels and I would suggest a frequency counter when using the unit after this modification. I've done this mod a few times back in the day, and it still works fine.

LMAO sorry about that, I said PLL purely out of habit. I never even caught it. stand by and I'll offer a link for the modification.

Found this on openchannel.uk
Don't know if it's the same as your radio.
1/ Remove the lid, top and bottom not forgetting the two screws in the back.
2/ Look at the back of the front panel and you will see the processor with various links by it.
3/ Locate the Links S1, S2, S3, S4 and remove any links.
4/ Locate the legend LCR which is just above the S links and remove the two links there.
5/ Locate the legend AM/FM and link these two in the same way that the LCR was linked.
6/ Look at the chart to decide what channels you would like and link the S1/2/3/4 connections as required.
7/ Refit the rig cases and dont forget the back two screws.
8/ Turn the radio on.
