hello fellow cbers,i have an old president honest abe.it works real well.just not excited about the drive of this radio.does anyone know of any mod that can be done,other than clipping d-14.to this radio to get alittle more forward swing,and drive out of it.right now it is dead keying about 4 watts and modulating to about 8 watts on a dee ultimate 4000 watt meter.d-14 has been clipped already.dont think anything else has been done.i would just like to get a few more watts of forward,at a lower key.....thanks for the help..jimmy in the backwoods of mississippi.

The same pricipal behind the super mod kit for all other radio would apply here.

Get at the driver. If it uses some form of regulator, then you have to take the eportish type of approach.

hi once again.the answer is it is an am only rig.and the pc board is a pc-241ab with a upd858 pll.i would just like to lower the key some.and still get decent swing from it..thanks for the replys.

hello all,thought id just reply on this post,as i have discovered,how to get this rig too really swing.locate l15 and l13 coils on the inside of p.c. board,then turn over unit and find the 13.8 volt pattern,that connects these two points.take a knife or box cutter,and carefully cut this pattern,so that the 13.8 volt source is isolated from the two coils,l13 and l15.then make you up a capacitor and resistor combo,consisting of a 100 ohm 2 watt resistor and a 220 uf @ 35 volt dc capacitor.install this combo on the inside on the p.c.b. at this point,the positive leg of the capacitor goes to l13,i soldered mine to the end of the coil furtherest fom the final.and solder the negative leg of the capacitor to the disc capacitor c56 on the p.c.b. i soldered mine to the leg of c56 furtherest from the final,just easier to get to that one.jumper out d11,clip d14,parallel c57 with a 68 pf disc capacitor,change r87 to a 1 meg,change r49 to a 27 ohm,change r42 to a 1 ohm,change r43 to a .47 ohm........this was just a little experiment i did on my honest abe,it will really make it swing.with good loud clear audio,ive gotten good radio checks on this radio since reworking it....i also think this same modification should work for the cobra 89 xlr,cobra 29 xlr,cobra 21 xlr,teaberry teddy r,teaberry t bear,teaberry titan t,and president dwight d....be aware this was an experiment that turned out good for me.experiment carefully.......happy modifying....
