Cobra 200 GTL DX Clarifier mod and SSB audio warble

Hi all,
Im new to the forum so hello to you all!
I just received a 200 gtl dx, supposed to be a mk2 .
Problem I am having is this, when trying to tune some stations in I cannot tune to them. If I use the clarifier to go up for example it needs a little more. so, I knock it up one channel and turn the clarifier the opposite way. Weirdly enough I still cannot tune to them. the freq display shows I am getting there but still cant tune.
Ive seen people saying they can mod the clarifier to swing 11kc, anyone know how its done ?
Second issue, on USB if I have the mic gain any more than half way the other listener says I start to warble. As I have dropped the mic gain to have audible audio, my output power suffers. Anyone got any ideas on why I cannot turn the mic gain all the way up on USB and for it to sound ok?
thanks all!
Matt
